Finding Mr. Right--an Idol?
I had an amazing conversation with a friend of mine tonight. We were talking about why Christians give up on Christianity. He said something that got me going. Here's the observation. A Christian guy is growing used to being rejected by Christian girls who won't give the guy a chance. But this Christian guy is approached and frequently made offers by non-Christian girls who are very attractive and intelligent. After being rejected enough times, he begins to wonder why he tries again, and decides that it isn't worth it anymore. This is heart-breaking, no? What does this reveal about our relationships in the body of Christ? I know what it's like to hold out for "the perfect relationship" at the expense of a friendship. It's sad, but true. And to make matters worse, non-Christians know this better than we Christians do. And there's only so much this Christian guy can take. Before long, I wouldn't blame him for giving up. What about you? What would relationships look like if we valued friendship above being girlfriend and boyfriend?
